This month on Dispodopolis we discuss the Magic Kingdom at Christmas time. We opened the park with extra morning hours and hit all the Christmas shows that the Magic Kingdom has to offer. It was bitter cold day, low of 36 and high of 49, but we persevered through the day and had an amazing day.
We start off our conversation about the Magic Kingdom with our amazing morning and walk on Space Mountain. We talk about the DAS (Disability Accessibility Service Card) and briefly how it works. Next we talk about our very nutritious breakfast at Gaston’s Tavern of cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate and that was followed by our encounters with the Country Bear Jamboree Bears, Big Al and Liver Lips McGrowl. We actually had two encounters with them and their friends from Splash Mountian, Brer Bear and Brer Rabbit, and some oldie but goodies, Horace Horsecollar and Clara Bell.
As the day progresses we talk about Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas Parade and our lunch at the Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen. After lunch we headed over to the Harmony Barbershop for a couple of haircuts and saw the parade for the second time. Since we had entered the park at 6:45am, we called it a day at 4:00pm. It was an amazing day and we were able to experience eleven attractions, lunch, a character meet and greet, and two parades.
That evening Fiona and I returned to the park to experience the New Year’s Eve Fireworks, which is a version of the Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks show with an amazing countdown at the end. While we waited for our next show, we experienced Mobile Dining at Casey’s Corner. The next show we saw was the Once Upon A Time castle projection show that was very entertaining. We ended our evening with Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration and had an unexpected ending to our night. Fiona, who has autism, didn’t share with me her expectations and we had a meltdown. It took thirty minutes to get her out of the park. We talk about that and how sometimes you have to spend thirty minutes to talk through a moment and learn a lesson.
Before we jump into our discussion of the Magic Kingdom at Christmas time, we talk about the changes coming to Disney California Adventure (DCA). Some of us are sad to see Bugs Land leave and some are really excited to see the expansion of the Marvel area. We also talk about Paradise Pier turning into Pixar Pier and all the additions and changes coming, including the Incredicoaster and Lamplight Lounge. How do we feel about it? Listen and find out and we would love to hear from you.
